Exploring Color Mixing
Summer camp students had many opportunities to create freely during camp and had access to all types of art supplies throughout the day. The students expressed an interest in paint and I noticed that many of them were asking how to create colors that were not at their disposal. I took this opportunity to allow the campers to physically mix their own colors and experiment with different ratios. They loved watching their paint become more and more muted as they added more colors to the mixture. Afterwards, we talked about some of our findings while mixing paint. It was great seeing how this experiment allowed students more freedom during their free time and many of them continued to work on art pieces during free time utilizing their new color mixing skills.
